Protecting the data on your Mac is critical and when you have multiple users accessing you Mac, it is even more important. In order to protect your computer from unauthorised access, it is advisable to create specific logins for the users thereby preventing sharing of login ids and passwords. OS X allows creating multiple logins and assigning specific rights to the users.
Adding accounts to OS X is an easy process and requires you to follow a few simple steps.

Configuring The System Preferences:
After opening the System Preferences, the existing user list appears on the left hand side pane. Your account will appear under My Account and will have admin level rights. Other accounts if any would appear under other accounts list. In case there are no accounts, only your account will be displayed. Once this dialogue box is opened, click on the plus sign at the bottom left hand corner to add new users.
Entering The Account Details:
Once the New Account box appears, enter the name for the account and the password for accessing it. Mac OS X automatically creates a short name for your account which is also the Buddy name for iChat AV. Once you have entered the password, you need to reenter it to verify it.
Entering The Password Hint Details:
This is optional and details can be entered by the users if they want to add a hint question for your accounts. If a password is entered incorrectly thrice, the hint would pop-up.
Granting The Rights:
If you want to allow the user to have admin level rights, you can check the box ‘Allow users to administer this computer’. While granting access to children, you can click on ‘Enable parental control’.
Creating The Account:
Once you have followed all the above mentioned steps, click on the ‘Create Account’ button to create the account.
You can easily create accounts in Mac OS X and grant specific rights to these accounts. The access to your Mac is secured and is limited to the user limits set by you. You can add multiple accounts through this option and can also delete specific accounts. However, in order to do it, you need to have admin rights for making additions and deletions of user accounts.
